I personally think having a heavy police presence on campus, our communities, in the world in general, is something we should consider letting go of as an idea. Other than the occaisional hostage situation, or bank robbery, how often do the police get the chance to justify their existense (in their present form). I say lets have a small force of highly trained, SWAT-styled officers on stand-by, in case of emergency, and have an office of clip-board carrying investigators handle the rest of the police work. The presence of weapons makes all police work violent.
